Wind tunnel and CFD testing for cycling products.

I test bikes, helmets, wheels and apparel in the Bike Valley wind tunnel in Belgium, and back that up with CFD checked against the same tunnel. You get drag numbers in CdA and watts, and a clear answer on which version to build.

Services

What I offer

Four ways to work together. Pick one, or ask and I will tell you which fits your question and budget.

Wind tunnel testing

Measured drag on the real product, with or without a rider. Yaw sweeps from -30° to +30° in steps down to 1°, wheel speed set independently of wind speed, and live results your engineers can follow remotely. A standard 13-angle sweep on a complete bike takes about 4 minutes, so a 2-hour Quick Check fits up to 16 bikes. Every session comes with a test protocol before and a written report after.

  • Quick Check2 h
  • Screening Session4 h
  • Extended Screening6 h
  • Validation Day8 h
from €1,640

CFD studies

Compare design variants on screen before you pay for a mould or a prototype.

  • Single Case1 geometry, 1 yaw
  • Concept Screen2–4 variants
  • Development Loop12 variants, 3 rounds
from €420

CFD + tunnel correlation

One campaign that ties your CFD model to tunnel measurements on the same product. After that, design rounds can run in simulation with a known error against the tunnel.

from €7,500

Aero engineering on your project

An aero engineer in your design team: tube shapes, airfoil choice, integration and cockpit, from concept to tooling freeze.

  • Engineering consultation€150/h
  • Development Program: 3 Validation Days + 4 h consultation€16,900
  • Custom mounts and test fixturesfrom €225
from €150/h

All prices excl. VAT. You get a fixed quote before any work starts.

How it works

From question to answer

  1. Call

You tell me what you want to know, and by when.

  2. Protocol and quote

I write the test plan: configurations, speeds, yaw angles. You get a fixed price with it.

  3. Test or simulate

In the tunnel or in CFD, following the agreed protocol.

  4. Report

Drag per configuration, what changed and why, and which option I recommend.

Why Aeroneering

An aerodynamicist on your test, start to finish

One engineer, whole project

I write the protocol, run the session and write the report myself. Nothing gets lost between a sales person and a tunnel operator.

Tunnel, CFD and design in one place

I have designed bikes as an aero engineer since 2020. So the advice goes past the drag numbers, into tube shapes, airfoils and integration.

The rig fits your product

Protocol and test rig are adapted to each client and each test, not the other way around.

Based at Bike Valley

About

Daan Teugels

Aerodynamic engineer, MSc Industrial Engineering in Aeronautics (VUB, cum laude). I have run the Bike Valley wind tunnel since 2021, testing pro riders and products for bike and apparel brands. I also led its upgrade: a new measurement platform, new atmospheric and wind speed sensors, and closed-loop wind speed control.

Since 2020 I have also worked as an aero engineer on road, time trial and track bike design, using CFD in Ansys Fluent, STAR-CCM+ and NablaFlow AeroCloud. Since July 2024 I do this work freelance, as Aeroneering Consult, for bike, helmet, wheel and apparel brands.
